Message from the Webmaster
14 September 2011
Hi PLoTters!
It’s been a while between updates, and we’ve got a lot of news to bring you.
First up, we’ve got a change up to the final production of our 2011 season. Following the success of Luke Preer’s directorial debut of “THE IMAGINARY INVALID” we’ve decided to green light his proposed production of Shakespeare’s “A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM”. Luke is going to be leaving us for bigger and better things in the upcoming year, so we wanted to take this opportunity while it presented itself. This means we’ll be putting on hold our production of “OTHELLO”. Hopefully we’ll be able to revive the project at a future date.
“A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM” will be staged sometime in December this year, watch this space or keep an eye on our facebook for confirmation.
We’re also pleased to announce that the PloT theatre company is now under sponsorship with the South banc Group, the people behind your favourite Hobart watering holes, the Tele, O Bar and Ivory. Our members are afforded a little special treatment on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, so make sure you make an appearance at our final production in order to take advantage of some sweet deals.
Watch this space.
CJ Bowers

ONE ACT DOUBLE BILL
|
DIRECTED BY TAI GARDNER
PERFORMACE DATES:
27-30 April
To open our 2011 season, PLoT proudly presents our annual one-act festival, a double-bill
of one-act plays. Presented by PLoT President TAI GARDNER, Oscar Wilde’s “A FLORENTINE TRAGEDY”
and Jean-Paul Sartre’s “NO EXIT” is a fascinating double-bill of humour vs. existentialism. Offering
such a diverse line-up of theatre, our one-act production is an opening to 2011 that you will not want
to miss!

THE CLUB
|
DIRECTED BY MARCUS JOHNSON
PERFORMANCE DATES:
20-21, 25-28 MAY
David Williamson’s 1977 classic about politics within a nameless football club
has always resonated with audiences, but carries extra subtext in today’s shifting
political climate. When honest but surly coach Laurie (CJ Bowers) goes to the press
about his dissatisfaction with incompetent yet well-intentioned club president Ted
(Tai Gardner), the resulting meeting reveals a web of corruption and betrayal that neither
man are prepared for. With detailed sets and a stellar cast of PLoT veterans with a first-time
director, The Club is a production not to be missed.

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM
|
DIRECTED BY LUKE PREER
PERFORMANCE DATES:
TBA
Luke Preer follows up his successful PLoT debut with his rendition of
Shakespeare's "A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM”. Featuring the antics of a
travelling theatre troop, a royal wedding, and the hallucinogen
conjured realm of the fairies; Shakespeare’s classic romantic comedy
is bound to inspire laughter. Brought into the modern day, with an
urban jungle setting, PloT’s final production is going to be a great
one!

THE IMAGINARY INVALID
|
DIRECTED BY LUKE PREER
PERFORMANCE DATES:
TBA
French playwright Moliere’s final work, “THE IMAGINARY INVALID”, follows the comical
trials of Argan, a severe hypochondriac, who schemes simultaneously to avoid his lengthy
pharmacy bills and marry his daughter, Angélique, to a dull medical student. His plans are
thwarted, however, both by his wife, who plans to send Angélique to a convent, and by Angélique
herself, who has fallen in love with her music instructor Cléante. Encompassing music and
dance, first time director Luke Preer brings this production to life with a late 60’s, psychedelic twist.
